Five Small Ways to Make Today Your Best Day Yet
To-Do List • Get to work on time • Organize important documents • Clean house • Do laundry • Purchase groceries • Return Jane’s call • Get in shape…….
Are you tired of completing a to-do list only to finish nothing, then waste what little time you have left in your day beating yourself to a pulp about it? If so, chinika.com contributor and Dallas, Texas-based Certified Life Coach and Psychotherapist Michele Wahlder (MS, LPC, PCC) advises you to first back away from the list; second, cut yourself some slack; and next implement the following to-do list that’s certain to lead you to a day of high productivity and infinite bliss: Take small actions. Ask yourself, "What are three small actions I can take today to get me closer to my goals?" Perhaps this means putting down that second cookie, or getting out your yoga mat and doing five minutes of exercise, or writing everyone's birthday into your calendar so you won't forget them this year or organizing just one drawer in your kitchen to help you reach your long-term goal of de-cluttering your home. Count today's blessings. Every day, write down five things you are thankful for, no matter how insignificant they may seem. A gratitude list is a wonderful tool to remind yourself what a gift your life is. This acknowledgement can help you stay positive and on track. At the end of each week, you'll have acknowledged 35 blessings in your life; at the end of one year, you'll have a list of 1,825 things you are grateful for! Celebrate daily successes. Even your smallest accomplishment is important. It is daunting to have 25 things on your to-do list, but only have the time to only accomplish three of them. At the end of the day, rather than look at the list and say, "I accomplished three things today!" we might be used to saying, "I didn't accomplish 20 things today!" Focus on what you DID do ... you accomplished three things today ... yay, you! Bite-size your goals. It's easy to become overwhelmed if we look at a goal of "running a marathon" as something that must be accomplished in just one day. Break your big goals down to bite-sized chunks and deal with just one chunk today. A mini-goal towards running a marathon could be "stretch for 10 minutes today"; or "run two miles today." If your goal is to move to a new city in a year, a bite-sized goal for today could be to search the internet for various "top-ten city lists.” If a city interests you, your next bite-sized step would be to research that city. And the next mini-goal, plan a visit! Have faith in today. You may not like every aspect of your current life situation, but if you trust that everything is unfolding in divine right order, it will help you enjoy and stay motivated in the now. If you do your best today, from exactly where you stand, with your exact set of circumstances, you will, day-by-day, change your life and create your bliss. Do your best today!
