CC's standing O applauds those who have the courage to inspire without the glares of the camera. Chinika.com salutes Spc. Elis McBride-Smith. Spc. McBride-Smith is among the thousands of U.S. troops stationed in Iraq. She was deployed on October 15, 2007, only six months after giving birth to a baby girl. In the upcoming issues of chinika.com, Spc. McBride-Smith will share how she’s coping with the separation from her first child and husband. Her blog will not only provide a vivid account of her emotional and physical state, but also the genuine description of the condition of Iraq.
In the Words of Spc. Elis McBride-Smith As a mother, I continuously wonder how things will be between my child and I when I return home. I have been away for nearly five months and for some reason, I am starting to feel disconnected from reality. My reality is my child, my family and my friends. Yet, I stay connected to my faith. As a wife, I am concerned for my husband being a single parent with an infant. But, above all, I am mostly concerned about returning home with life, limbs, sound spirit and mind! I am not only concerned for myself, but for all of the troops on this battlefield who are involved in direct engagement of the enemy.
