Hattiesburg, Miss -

So you’ve got fabulous plans this Saturday night. Maybe your hunny has asked you on a romantic dinner date, or maybe Saturday brings a ladies’ night out full of socializing and cocktails. Whether you are among the former or the latter, I have some fashion savvy styling advice that’s sure to refocus your sweetie pie’s eyes, or catch those of a prospective special someone.

Each style emits a definite femininity, highlighting and creating gorgeous curves.

For those of you who have scored a date, I advise your look to have a sweet maturity (envision a 1950s housewife, iconic of classy and cute, with a modern woman’s sense of vibrant grace).  To achieve this look, you should select a silhouette that begins fitted through the upper torso, cinches at the natural waist, and is full at the bottom.  For a curvy figure, achieve this shape by seeking out an A-Line dress, and for a straight figure, look for a dress with a full skirt.  When choosing the dress, look for one with a tie-belt made in matching fabric, or if you find the right fit without a belt, dig through your closet and grab one off of something else you may already own.  Little additions, such as the ones above, add charm and make the outfit uniquely yours.  If you decide you’d rather bear a circle skirt, wear it with a long, sporty or basic tank top (un-tucked), and wear a thin belt at your natural waist.  If you are curvy, keep in mind you want a skirt with a wide waistband.  The width will allow the tank top to lay contoured against your body without the added bulk from gathered fabric. Also, choose fabrics with a bit of weight to drape around your curve. If you have a straighter frame, go for lighter fabrics with additional under layering to fill the bell shape at the silhouette’s bottom.

Now, if this Saturday leads you to ladies’ night out and cocktails, I say we stick with a mature look, but exchange sweet for sass.  The 1950s starlet becomes our inspiration as we create a look that is body conscious and all woman.  The silhouette begins fitted at the upper torso and continues to contour down the body.   Shapely women, think about contoured darts at the front and back when choosing dresses or high-waist skirts.  Women with straighter frames should go for a shaped shift dress that darts just around the bust for fit and has small pleats around the front and back waist. Also, if you have a straight figure, consider choosing a high-waist skirt that has a wide waistband and front and back pleats for added fullness at the hip.  I suggest you choose a fitted blouse or tank top tucked in to lengthen your line as well.

When accessorizing either of these outfits, keep it simple. For instance, wear a round toe pump or flat shoes, and choose jewelry pieces that speak for themselves.  Keep in mind you don’t have to always have a matching necklace, bracelet, ring, or earrings. I recommend choosing two of the four, perhaps a necklace and a ring, or earrings and a bracelet.  The key thing to remember is to create combinations that match in color or style, but that you didn’t buy as a set.  It’s just another way of adding charm to your overall look.

Well lovely ladies, I do hope these tips were helpful and I hope your Saturday totally rocks, no matter how you plan to spend it.  And by the way, if you are staying in this weekend, the look I suggest is super comfy.  Throw on your most worn in pajama pants and baggy T-shirt, and curl up on the couch with a pint of the richest, most intoxicatingly chocolate ice cream you can find!!!!

XOXO

I was born and raised a Southern girl in a small town called Kiln, near the coast in Mississippi.  After high school, I attended the University of Southern Mississippi in pursuit of a degree in dance performance and choreography, but was called down a different path after two years.  I decided to study fashion design at the International Academy of Design and Technology in Tampa, Fla., and finished my degree while studying abroad in London, England, for nine months.  My experience in the industry carries through several facets of fashion, as I like to have a taste of everything, including fashion design, fashion merchandising and retail, fashion styling and, most recently, a bit of fashion journalism.
